You press jump a fraction too late on a crumbling ledge and Madeline tumbles into a pit for the eighth time. The screen resets instantly — no loading bar, no life counter — and your thumb is already pressing right again, because you’ve spotted why the dash should have been angled slightly higher that time.
Dash through a screen
Each single-screen challenge is a self-contained puzzle of spikes, moving platforms and crumbling floors. You learn the room’s rhythm through repetition, failing quickly and respawning at the start of that same screen.
Find the hidden route
Look behind a crumbling wall or take a risky detour mid-jump and you might spot a strawberry or a cassette tape tucked away off the main path. These hidden areas reward curiosity without ever blocking your progress up the mountain.
Reach the summit
Madeline’s climb unfolds across hundreds of handcrafted challenges, with bonus chapters that open up after the credits roll. The story stays grounded in her thoughts and conversations, but the minute-to-minute task is always the same: read the room, time the dash, survive.
